Summer Berry Smoothie

Updated: Jul 22, 2024

One of the reasons I love summer is because berries are in abundance.

Although ideally I would buy only organic berries, I also take advantage of the grocery store sale prices of regular un-organic blueberries. 99 cent blueberry pints? I can't pass that up!

I love eating cheese omelettes made with plenty of butter and a big bowl of berries for breakfast. Or I'll have a big bowl of fruit for my mid-morning snack.

On hot days I'll make smoothies for breakfast or lunch!

I believe in all the benefits of berries, but I avoid adding extra sugar when I cook. So in this recipe, I use half and half or heavy whipping cream instead of juice. The result is delicious!

This smoothie is great for combating the summer heat. Read all about how to handle hot summer days here in this similar smoothie recipe.

The Recipe

Serves 2. Cook time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

1 ripe banana

7 strawberries

1/2 pint blueberries

1 T honey

1/2 cup half and half or heavy whipping cream

1 -1 1/2 cups ice

Instructions

In a blender, add all ingredients in the order listed. Blend thoroughly smooth and creamy. Serve immediately!

Notes: If you use heavy whipping cream, the smoothie will thicken quickly. Enjoy immediately!
